Episode 80 – Big Spoon

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our 80th episode, we are still down a Jen – THANKS ALLERGENS – yet we persevere with our promise to switch to a weekly format/schedule. After some soundboard-on-a-mobile-phone shenanigans we get down to business and talk about what we’ve been up to: Lanntonio finally has some rank 25+ gems, Nevik FINALLY slaughtered some cows, and Breja has already surpassed paragon 100 with his hardcore seasonal puke doctor!

On April 25th at 11:56 NST a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred 34 km (21 mi) east-southeast of Lamjung, Nepal. The devastation has been widespread and the death toll keeps climbing. Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal affected by the initial quake and continuing subsequent after-shocks. Numerous non-profit organizations have mobilized and arrived in Nepal, but they need your help. If you can help go to bit.ly/paypalnepalrelief which links directly to Paypal’s Nepal Earthquake Relief and Recovery Donation site. 100% of all donations will be directly sent to each respective organization with Paypal waiving all corresponding fees so that every cent donated is delivered to each non-profit organizations helping in the relief effort. Again, if you can, please help.

In this episode:

* As mentioned in episode 79 we had to push all the emails we received from our wonderful listeners due to time constraints. Then we received even more, and as you might have guessed, we had to push those emails to episode 81. Listener participation has been absolutely amazing and is primarily why we do this show, so keep them coming! We WILL get to all the emails we receive, even if occasionally we have to push a few to the next episode. Send in your stories of RNGesus triumph to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com!

* We received a bunch of tweets (as you might) from @Torrack1714, @Nogumebearsteve, @grindexp, @scanline75, @Shepherd_Sieja, @Kagerai_Leblue, @Hawgeye_CTR, @Kherova, and @sastewart111. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* We posed the question on Twitter soliciting your opinions on ancient weapons. Love them? Hate them? We wanted to know. Be sure to follow the show on Twitter to participate in future Questions of the Show.

* Alkaizer put together some ideas and suggestions for the future of Diablo III and we discuss a few of the ideas he shared as well as a few of our own. Do you have something you would love to see in Diablo III? Let us know!

* For two shows in a row our beloved segment, Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater, makes another appearance. BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP! Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

* If you were lucky enough to score tickets to Blizzcon and have nothing to do the Thursday night before the con, we have an idea for you. Con Before the Storm (formerly known in years past as World of Podcasts) is running a Kickstarter campaign to make this amazing event EVEN BIGGER THAN LAST YEAR … if that’s even possible ^^;

* Blizzard Watch lore master Matthew Rossi is back at again with another Diablo-themed Know Your Lore (Tinfoil Hat Edition) focusing on the potential storyline of what we might see in a second expansion for Diablo III.

* Popular Diablo III Twitch streamer DatModz, for funsies, leveled a fresh monk from 1 to 70 in ~66 seconds. Why? Why not? It was for fun.

* Wizards are in a really good place right now thanks to the changes to the Tal Rasha’s set and our good friend – and wizard extraordinaire – Jaetch put together a video guide of a “Melee” Tal Rasha Wizard build. It looks like a lot of fun!

* Blizzfront is an amazing and useful Blizzard news curator that is extremely mobile friendly. Bookmark it on your smart phones to keep up-to-date on all of the Blizzard goings-ons while on the go!

* T. Mac has another take on the GOD MODE MONK with his GOD MODE wizard video guide. As with other “god mode” builds, this one centers on having an In-Geom. It’s an amazing sword (so as long as it rolls at least 9 seconds).

* Finally, we leave you with this, a HC 4 player Greater Rift 60 clear. YUP. GR60. HARCCORE. Power creep *IS* real ^^;

Other Entertainment/Games:

* While some of the hosts may not be fans of the Halo series, at least Nevik is. Not only does Nevik love the games, but he also enjoys the expanded universe and lore of Microsoft’s Halo series. Unfortunately the movie, Halo: Nightfall, was a big bag of MEH. If you’re a diehard Halo-fan, you may enjoy this … but you can skip it, if you want.

Song of the Show:

Our other beloved segment makes its triumphant return and what better way to celebrate its return than by featuring the latest sick lyrics from our good friend Melkor(ious). Melkor is back with Forum Warriors: State of the Union and as always is an impressive display of lyrical dexterity. Check out more of Melkor’s work over at his YouTube channel.

Episode 75 – Rest in Pepperonis Season One

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our 75th episode, our intrepid host finally returns from his podcasting hiatus! After much rejoicing we get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Breja met his season 1 goal, Jen had an absolute blast smashing things in Torment 3, and Nevik climbed the dizzying heights of the seasonal hardcore monk leaderboards!

In this episode:

* We received a single, solitary email from listener Aldirik! We love to hear stories of triumph or tragedy from our listeners, so send yours to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com!

* We received a metric ton of tweets from @pergosmaster, @Kherova, @Kagerai_Leblue, @JCMonkeyD3, @jay_likes_bacon, @sastewart111, @Jaetch, @grindexp, @Daddy_Puffin, @Medros, @scanline75, @Cybrwolf0, @Torrack1714, @peterkicinski, and @Makoez. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

We posed the question on Twitter asking what you have planed for season 2.  Be sure to follow our show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* Season One is now officially in our rear-view mirrors and with season two right around the corner we wrap up our experiences in the very first season for Diablo III. Did you accomplish everything you had set out to do? We also share our plans, once again, for season two.

* As a preclude of what to expect in season two when it starts community manager Nevalistis will be wrangling together Wyatt Cheng, Travis Day, and Don Vu for another Tavern Talk on Tuesday, February 10th at 11:00am PST. They are likely to do a quick post-mortem on the first season and give insight on what they hope to accomplish with seasons going forward.

* Rumors spreading like wildfire is nothing new for the Diablo franchise and Blizzard Entertainment in general, but this most recent rumor gained a lot of traction and momentum on the Internets. Fact? Fiction? We give our opinions on the matter as well as our frustrations with reporting without credible sources. Blizzpro also posted an article where they debunked much of what spread from the blog post claiming to have insider information.

* It is with heavy hearts that we regret to inform you that we did not produce an Official Forum Thread Masterpiece theater (again) for this episode. Not to pull a guilt trip, but YOU have the power to not let this happen again! Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

* Want to know more about our very own Breja? Recently Dred and JCMonkey sat down and interviewed Breja on Scythe and Shield #17. That makes 3 of our 4 hosts that have been interviewed, we anticipate that Jen will make an appearance on their show in the near future ^^.

* Listener Daddy Puffin sought a link to the One Life to Live articles/guides written by Xanth over at Diablo.IncGamers. While there was a teeeny tiny bit of confusion as to what exactly Daddy Puffin was looking for, we did provide a starting point for him to dig into the entirety of the One Life to Live series of articles.

* Are you going to be rolling a wizard in season two? Our beloved host and #Wizard4Life Nevik is despite some anxiety over high level play demonstrated in a pair of videos created by wizard extraordinaire Jaetch. Be sure to check out how his Dual Hydras and Firebird Wizard videos fair in Greater Rift 45.

* Looking for a new build to try out in season two? Be sure to check out community manager Nevalisitis’ on-going series Play Your Way for ideas. We mentioned Prflys’ Pyrolysis wizard build and Alexuss’ Rocket Druid demon hunter build in this episode.

* Speaking of community manager activity, Grimiku recently interviewed multi-song-of-the-show contributor Melkorious for the on-going Fresh Meat N’ Greet series on the forums.

* In case you just recently came back to the game at the end of season one, community manager Nevalistis provided a quick and handy guide of what to expect when season one concluded.

Song of the Show:

Ready for another Out of Left Field song of the show? Good! This time we bring you the opening theme song for the anime Rage of Bahamut: Genesis preformed by Japanese ska/metal band SiM (Silence iz Mine). Finding more music from them is a little tricky but here is a link to a playlist on the YouTubes where you can hear more by SiM as well as some other Japanese ska bands. Be sure to check out the show itself over at Funimation.com.

Episode 66 – All By Myself

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, Nevik is all by his lonesome to fill in the listeners about the impromptu hiatus and state of the podcast. After reassuring that the show is far from dead and some catching up, Nevik gets down to business by discussing what he’s been up to in-game: spreading the virtues of Clementine, his level 70 HC monk!

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, a mountain of emails we received from our wonderful listeners. This batch came to us from Dred, Scanline, and Commander Bird! Thank you for the amazing amount of emails! Keep them coming, really!

* We received a mountain of tweets from @sadromeo, @BlizzconCD, @shawno, @Rilandune, @JCMonkeyD3, @scanline75, @Torrack1714, @dwegan, @Chaos5061, @wowjason62606, @grindexp, @JeremyTStevens, @Paidtokill5440, and @HomeTownHero008.

* The show isn’t dead. Far from it. This show is still very much a passion for all of the hosts, but as Nevik explains, sometimes real life just gets in the way. Things should be getting “back on track” as we approach the launch of 2.1!

* The Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition is upon us! Are you planning the console version while waiting for Patch 2.1? If you made the jump from PS3/Xbox 360 to a PS4 or XBOne, you’re in luck as Blizzard detailed how to transfer your old Diablo III save to the shiny new UEE.

* How close is the patch anyways? In an interview with Arreat.de Production Director John Hight hints that there’s still a chance that we might see patch 2.1 later this month!

* Cuckoo Gaming has put together a series of Fully Crafted Torment Viable guides on YouTube for four out of the five six classes: Wizard, Crusader, Barbarian, Puke Doctor. Hopefully these videos sate your appetite for knowledge until we finally discuss how to be torment viable on our show.

* In Dred’s email to the show he mentioned a “funny Hitler video“, though much of the content is now moot and the wizard hasn’t been nerfed to the ground, it is still amusing. Yet … not sure how we should feel about “Hitler loving the wizard.”

Song of the Show:

Friend of the show and Forum Warrior Melkor is back with another freestyle rap, Forum Warriors – Invasion. With a catchy beat and some timely advice Melkor is back in form with this masterpiece. Be sure to support and check out more of Melkor’s work on YouTube.

Episode 61 – 100 Word Shenanigans

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our first post-launch episode, we are all excited about having our souls reaped. After much celebration and frivolity we get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Lanntonio is holy hammering all the things, Jen is shooting all the things, Nevik is freezing and zapping all the things, and Breja is … well … Breja is puking on all the things.

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, a pair of emails we received from our wonderful listeners. This batch came to us from Rilandune and Frying Tuck. Thank you for the emails and voice mail! Keep them coming, really!

* We posed the question on Twitter asking if your post-RoS gaming had deviated from your pre-launch plans. We got quite a few responses. Be sure to follow our show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* We announced the winners for our 100 Word Story Contest this episode! Our grand-prize winner was @CkRtech for his amazing story; so much said with so little! Runner-ups for our contest included @Rilandune and @JCMonkeyD3 who will both be receiving a copy of Nate Kenyon’s Storm of Light. We decided to put the t-shirt winner in the hands of the community, so be on the look-out for a collection of all of the entries in the very near future!

* With Reaper of Souls officially being in everyone’s hands we discussed our own experiences with the expansion including the number of hotfixes that have come down the pipeline since launch.

* Just before Reaper of Souls launched, Carbot Animations released their parody/tribute of the expansion’s opening cinematic. We LOVED it! And we know you will too! (Wait, you haven’t seen it yet? Rectify that NAO! … with this handy embedded video!)

If you were not already aware our editor, Shawn, is in-between jobs and could really use some help. If you can spare anything there is a Crowdtilt fund to help make ends meet. We are massively grateful for any help you can send his way. Thank you!

* Friend of the show, Dredscythe from GrindEXP.com sat down with Sibcoe from Red Team Gaming prior to the launch of Reaper of Souls to discuss where the game has been and their impressions on where it is going in the future.

* Reaper of Souls added a lot of new legendary crafting materials scattered all over the game for crafting a bunch of new legendary items. If you’re wondering if someone has compiled a list of all the materials and where to find them, the answer is yes! Check out DiabloFans Legendary Crafting Guide so that you don’t hunt aimlessly.

* Archon the Wizard and Neinball from BlizzPro kicked off a new Diablo III: Reaper of Souls pod/vidcast titled Westmarch Workshop. The pair aim to highlight varying builds for everyone to potentially try out on a weekly basis. They are looking for feedback on their inaugural episode, so let them know what you think! You can catch Westmarch Workshop Wednesday nights at 6pm PDT over on Archon’s Twitch channel.

* If you love running bounties in Adventure Mode and did not realize it, there are specific legendary items that you can only get from the Horadric Caches after completing all of an act’s bounties. Here’s a handy link to DiabloHub that lists all of the cache-specific legendary items you can hope to find.

* Reddit user D3agl3uk put together and posted a chart on the /r/Diablo sub-reddit detailing the nuances of each of the new difficulty settings added in the 2.0 patch.

* Blizzard traditionally puts together some pretty amusing April Fool’s Day jokes and this year kept that tradition alive. Be sure to check out Blizzard’s Happy Reaper, a Diablo-themed homage to Flappy Bird. Nevik managed to get a high score of TWO … BEAT THAT … if you dare.

Episode 56 – Frozen Crickets

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, we are sadly once again without our 4th Musketeer, Lanntonio, but we persevere and get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Breja is nearing the end with his barbarian, Jen has spent some time on a crusade, and Nevik lost his hardcore, self-found, solo, no-stash wizard.

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, a solitary email we received from one of our wonderful listeners. Thank you for the email Smokimus! Keep them coming, really!

* We received tweets from @pergosmaster, @Rilandune, @Hawgeye_CTR, @VictorCaslstedt, @HomeTownHero008, and @eG_acefisher1. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* Have you looked at a calendar recently? February 4th is quickly approaching which means Nate Kenyon‘s newest novel, Diablo III: Storm of Light, will soon be available for us to consume. If you can’t wait that long Blizzard recently posted an excerpt from the novel.

“Then tell us what insights you have gained from Chalad’ar, Wisdom,” Imperius said, his voice mocking once again. “Tell us what to do with the stone. The Council has been divided on this for too long. Or are the rumors among the angels correct, and you have yet to consult the chalice?”

* We discuss, at length, the merits of allowing the unpopular closed beta (and 2.0.1 PTR) builds to linger over the holidays. Should a new build have been ready to go prior to Christmas or shortly after New Years? Has letting it linger damaged the public perception of Reaper of Souls? We discuss both sides of the argument and are looking for your input as well, send your thoughts to show@shatteredsoulstone.com.

* Speaking of beta builds for Reaper of Souls, Blizzard recently announced that the pre-download for Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is being targeted for the end of January now live.

* During Nevik’s “rant” on the current state of the Reaper of Souls beta he failed to mention that our good friend Sibcoe over at Red Team Gaming put together his thoughts and opinions — which mirrored Nevik’s own — in a more eloquent manner. Below you will find links to what Sibcoe published:

Monster density has been a very polarizing topic on the Diablo III forums and Sibcoe from Red Team Gaming had something to add to the discussion.

Blizzard is big on “super-balancing” almost to a fault and Sibcoe from Red Team Gaming discusses the merits of needing over-powered builds in an ARPG.

* We missed it last episode and failed to mention it, but Sibcoe from Red Team Gaming reignited his State of Diablo III series with the twentieth installment featuring guests Jaetch and Dred from GrindEXP.com.

* Ever wondered what a Diablo-themed Hearthstone would look like? DeviantArt user Dexistor371 has you covered with his mock-up concept Soulstone: Heroes of Pandemonium.

* Were you fortunate enough to attend Blizzcon? Did you run into Maghda? If you answered no to either of these questions we have you covered. DeviantArt user FirstKeeper published a professionally taken photograph. It should certainly make you wish Maghda had a larger role in Diablo III; we know Rho certainly wishes she did.

Song of the Show:

Melkor is back with another Diablo inspired rap, this time expanding the focus beyond Critical Mass, the passive of the soon to be past. His latest musical creation, titled Diablo: A Love Story, features guest vocals by FloMaxx. Our good friend Jaetch lended a hand and put together the music video to pull everything together. We hope you enjoy it!
