Episode 83 – Neinball, Corner Pocket

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our 83rd episode, we brought on Neinball from the Westmarch Workshop as we were once again down a Jen. After a rocky pre-show due to some technical difficulties we get down to business and talk about what we’ve been up to: Neinball has been Demon Huntering, Nevik has been IRL’ng, Breja has been RIP’ng, and Lanntonio has been GR’ng.

On April 25th at 11:56 NST a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred 34 km (21 mi) east-southeast of Lamjung, Nepal. The devastation has been widespread and the death toll keeps climbing. Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal affected by the initial quake and continuing subsequent after-shocks. Numerous non-profit organizations have mobilized and arrived in Nepal, but they need your help. If you can help go to bit.ly/paypalnepalrelief which links directly to Paypal’s Nepal Earthquake Relief and Recovery Donation site. 100% of all donations will be directly sent to each respective organization with Paypal waiving all corresponding fees so that every cent donated is delivered to each non-profit organizations helping in the relief effort. Again, if you can, please help.

In this episode:

* We finally caught up with our backlog of emails in episode 82 and received a solitary voice-mail from our frequent EU contributer, Kherova. Listener participation has been absolutely amazing and is primarily why we do this show, so keep them coming! We WILL get to all the emails we receive, even if occasionally we have to push a few to the next episode. Send in your stories of RNGesus triumph to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com!

* We received a bunch of tweets (as you might) from @sastewart111, @scanline75, @Kherova, @TheMerlen, @GrandNagus1, @PaidtoKill5440, @Cybrwolf0, @HomeTownHero008, @Squirrelfreak83, @Kagerai_Leblue, and our own @QueenofHaiku. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* Due to our lack of timeliness we carried over the question on Twitter from episode 82 asking what your gaming guilty pleasures are. Be sure to follow the show on Twitter to participate in future Questions of the Show.

* Last episode we mentioned Nobbie’s series of Diablo III Expansion #2 speculation blog posts (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) but shelved the discussion until this episode. This may, or may not, have been also partially related to having fellow Diablo lore-nut Neinball on the show to join us for the discussion. What could a second expansion hold? Only time will tell.

* Increased stash space is a common request from the community at large, and it’s here … sort of. Appears that recently the ability to buy more stash tabs with premium in-game currency has gone live on the Chinese F2P Diablo III servers. We share our thoughts on this development and whether or not we would support such a feature in our region.

* What are you doing May 26th, 2015? Diablo II: Lord of Destruction will be having yet another ladder reset and most of the hosts are planning on participating; will you?

* For Diablo III’s 3rd Anniversary there’s a Cowspiracy going around. Reports of angry bipedal bovine are coming in. Have you HERD any of these rumors? Surely there must be some MOOSTEAK. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

* Blizzard in conjunction with Thinkgeek are holding a BREAK THE BANK giveaway where you can win one of ten Treasure Goblin money banks. They look amazing and you still have some time to enter before the May 25th deadline.

* Play Your Way Thursday is back with Sir Boneselot’s “You Can’t Run” puke doctor build. We can only imagine the level of giggling that must have come out Nevalistis’ general vicinity while putting this together.

* Friend of the show, Jaetch, recorded his wizard’s POV when him and 3 others successfully cleared a Greater Rift 70 to obtain the #1 spot on the Era 3 4 Player Leaderboards. Well done sir, well done.

* If you’re wondering how far a wizard can push things in greater rifts solo, Reiko Zockt answers your question with his GR59 clear. He’s also successfully cleared a GR60, but that video has not yet been made available.

Other Entertainment/Games:

* Heroes of the Storm is now in OPEN BETA meaning YOU, yes YOU, can finally play if you never stumbled into a beta key. If you’re jonesing for some PVP action that slightly resembles the long lost Diablo III arena PVP demoed at past Blizzcons, then Heroes might be right up your alley. While downloading the client, why not check out and listen to a few Heroes-focused podcasts out there: Into the Nexus, Stormcast, Heart of the Storm ‘Cast, Heroes PowerHour, and if those aren’t enough to satiate your Heroes podcast appetite, Realm Maintenance has a directory where you can find even more.

Song of the Show:

For the first time ever we are featuring our first foreign language song of the show. Diablo 1, 2, et 3 French Rap by Hightouch has a catchy beat and lyrics to match … though we’re not quite sure what exactly those lyrics are saying, well maybe Breja knows ^^;; You can find more from Hightouch over at Soundcloud.

Episode 80 – Big Spoon

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our 80th episode, we are still down a Jen – THANKS ALLERGENS – yet we persevere with our promise to switch to a weekly format/schedule. After some soundboard-on-a-mobile-phone shenanigans we get down to business and talk about what we’ve been up to: Lanntonio finally has some rank 25+ gems, Nevik FINALLY slaughtered some cows, and Breja has already surpassed paragon 100 with his hardcore seasonal puke doctor!

In this episode:

* As mentioned in episode 79 we had to push all the emails we received from our wonderful listeners due to time constraints. Then we received even more, and as you might have guessed, we had to push those emails to episode 81. Listener participation has been absolutely amazing and is primarily why we do this show, so keep them coming! We WILL get to all the emails we receive, even if occasionally we have to push a few to the next episode. Send in your stories of RNGesus triumph to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com!

* We received a bunch of tweets (as you might) from @Torrack1714, @Nogumebearsteve, @grindexp, @scanline75, @Shepherd_Sieja, @Kagerai_Leblue, @Hawgeye_CTR, @Kherova, and @sastewart111. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* We posed the question on Twitter soliciting your opinions on ancient weapons. Love them? Hate them? We wanted to know. Be sure to follow the show on Twitter to participate in future Questions of the Show.

* Alkaizer put together some ideas and suggestions for the future of Diablo III and we discuss a few of the ideas he shared as well as a few of our own. Do you have something you would love to see in Diablo III? Let us know!

* For two shows in a row our beloved segment, Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater, makes another appearance. BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP! Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

* If you were lucky enough to score tickets to Blizzcon and have nothing to do the Thursday night before the con, we have an idea for you. Con Before the Storm (formerly known in years past as World of Podcasts) is running a Kickstarter campaign to make this amazing event EVEN BIGGER THAN LAST YEAR … if that’s even possible ^^;

* Blizzard Watch lore master Matthew Rossi is back at again with another Diablo-themed Know Your Lore (Tinfoil Hat Edition) focusing on the potential storyline of what we might see in a second expansion for Diablo III.

* Popular Diablo III Twitch streamer DatModz, for funsies, leveled a fresh monk from 1 to 70 in ~66 seconds. Why? Why not? It was for fun.

* Wizards are in a really good place right now thanks to the changes to the Tal Rasha’s set and our good friend – and wizard extraordinaire – Jaetch put together a video guide of a “Melee” Tal Rasha Wizard build. It looks like a lot of fun!

* Blizzfront is an amazing and useful Blizzard news curator that is extremely mobile friendly. Bookmark it on your smart phones to keep up-to-date on all of the Blizzard goings-ons while on the go!

* T. Mac has another take on the GOD MODE MONK with his GOD MODE wizard video guide. As with other “god mode” builds, this one centers on having an In-Geom. It’s an amazing sword (so as long as it rolls at least 9 seconds).

* Finally, we leave you with this, a HC 4 player Greater Rift 60 clear. YUP. GR60. HARCCORE. Power creep *IS* real ^^;

Other Entertainment/Games:

* While some of the hosts may not be fans of the Halo series, at least Nevik is. Not only does Nevik love the games, but he also enjoys the expanded universe and lore of Microsoft’s Halo series. Unfortunately the movie, Halo: Nightfall, was a big bag of MEH. If you’re a diehard Halo-fan, you may enjoy this … but you can skip it, if you want.

Song of the Show:

Our other beloved segment makes its triumphant return and what better way to celebrate its return than by featuring the latest sick lyrics from our good friend Melkor(ious). Melkor is back with Forum Warriors: State of the Union and as always is an impressive display of lyrical dexterity. Check out more of Melkor’s work over at his YouTube channel.

Episode 69 – Terrible Threes

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, we catch up with the going-ons from the past month. We then get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Jen Gurr’d their way up to 70, Nevik had a severe case of Destinitis, Breja is climbing the paragons with his seasonal puke doctor, and LANNTONIO HAS INTERNET ONCE AGAIN!

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, a solitary email we received from our wonderful EU ambassador, Master Do! We love to hear stories of triumph or tragedy from our listeners, so keep them coming, really!

* We received a mountain of tweets from @xBrokenxFirex, @JCMonkeyD3, @Kagerai_Leblue, @evilgaze, @Paidtokill5440, @grindexp, @Hawgeye_CTR, @sastewart111, @Rilandune, @GENERAL00, @celtherapy, @Kherova, @JeremyTStevens, @scanline75, @HomeTownHero008, @TheWMWorkshop, @astrovert, @Torrack1714, @natekenyon, and our editing master @shawno. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* Has it really been over a month since our last show? Really? Did we, the show, turn three years old on October 12th? Really? Well despite our inconsistent regularity we are back to celebrate our 3rd anniversary and discuss what we’ve been up to since our last show.

* With Blizzcon 2014 just around the corner, we discuss the recent releases of the show schedule as well as the floor map inside the Anaheim Convention Center. There are some notable omissions in the schedule and a mysterious empty spot in Hall C where the Heroes of the Storm demo area was last year. What could this mean? We share our speculations but we would love to hear your thoughts! Shoot us an email or hit us up on Twitter.

* Thanks to our EU community ambassador, Master Do, we now have a new challenge for our listeners to participate in … if they dare! It personifies hardcore to the … well, uhm … core. Look for an official post detailing the rules and guidelines for this hardest of hardcore challenges.

* It is with heavy hearts that we regret to inform you that we did not produce an Official Forum Thread Masterpiece theater (again) for this episode. Not to pull a guilt trip, but YOU have the power to not let this happen again! Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

* Do you like Diablo-themed parody songs? Firebird featuring vocals by Scooper and lyrics by Jaetch might ignite your desire to seek out a full Firebird set for the wizard.

* In case you’re not satisfied with only one Diablo-themed parody song, Dreamreaver23 has a pair of parodies, Hey There Kadala and Diablo Holy Grail, to sate your ravenous parody appetite.

* Are you heading to Anaheim for Blizzcon 2014 and spending a few extra days? Blizzard in conjunction with the Anaheim Convention Center has put together a site with deals to help save you some money should you seek out something to do outside of the Blizzcon festivities.

* In case the improbable happens and Josh steps up on the main stage during the opening ceremonies to announce the next Diablo III expansion, Eristhe has put together an amazing piece of concept art for a Shadowthief class. Maybe another class for Nevik to devote his life to?

* XIII Leathercraft put together an amazing Diablo III themed leather pouch. What would you put in it?

* With Blizzcon just around the corner you can expect a bunch of Diablo-themed cosplay to pop up. Emmabellish and husband shared their Auriel and Imperius cosplay that you will see at Blizzcon 2014. Emmabellish also published a video tutorial on the fabric-covered foam armor created for the cosplay.

* Finally, did you know that our EU Community Ambassador, Master Do, is a co-host on a long-running French Diablo podcast? We didn’t either! If you’re fluent in French be sure to check out Diablo Zaures!

Song of the Show:

We’re back on the fan-made cover track with Rayden’s rendition of I am Justice from the Diablo III (chocolate) soundtrack. Starting off almost ethereal Rayden injects some luscious beats as the song matures. You can find more of Rayden’s work on YouTube and Soundcloud.

Episode 67 – Hardly Touching Fruit

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, we celebrate getting almost everyone back into the “recording studio”! After catching up from our unplanned hiatus we get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Breja got cocky and lost his Plum, Nevik has yet another level 70 wizard, and Jen is wondering what class to get to 70 next!

In this episode:

* We received a solitary email from Rebur (@Chaos5061) but decided to hold onto it for our next show at his behest since its content is aimed for our “Getting Torment Viable show“! Thank you Rebur for the email, we will hold on to it for when that show happens! We love to hear stories of triumph or tragedy from our listeners, so keep them coming, really!

We got quite a few responses despite the short notice on the question going live. Be sure to follow our show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* Could Patch 2.1 be right around the corner? Blizzard has been on a Patch 2.1 media blitz with a hosted Q&A Tavern Talk, forum post highlighting the design philosophies behind the patch, and previews for Seasons, Greater Rifts, and The Vault. We can’t be far off, right?

* Meanwhile, as announced by community manager Nevalistis at the end of the developer Tavern Talk, Blizzard decided everyone could use some more gold and gave us a +50% Gold Find buff for the duration of the weekend (until server maintenance early Tuesday morning). Another sign that 2.1 is Soon™?

* We are back at it with another Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater and this time we bring you not just one, but TWO angst-ridden threads that cropped up on the official forums. Did you lose a hardcore character during the weekend DDoS attacks? Or do you feel that Blizzard is ignoring you? These folks sure did and took to the forums to let everyone know.

As always we are looking for your participation with this fun segment, send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

This episode’s Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater segment bed music included Rondeau from Sinfonie de Fanfares by Jean-Joseph Mouret and Pannonia Boundless by Alexandra Vrebalov.

Episode 65 – Torrack and *ahem* Whatnot

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, we celebrate getting back into the “recording studio” and ‘Murica’s burfday! After some cleaning up some podcasting cobwebs we get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Breja is DETERMINED to get a hardcore level 70, Lanntonio is still without good internet, Nevik is still fruitlessly grinding for a Ring of Royal Grandeur, and Jen got her barbarian to 70!

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, a mountain of emails we received from our wonderful listeners. This batch came to us from Torrack, Rockdale, Hawgeye, and Graciel! Thank you for the amazing amount of emails! Keep them coming, really!

* We received a mountain of tweets from @Torrack1714 *cough*, @Foqbupog, @Paidtokill5440, @diabloplayer68, @HomeTownHero008, @Rilandune, @Hawgeye_CTR, @ig_nateward, @Kagerai_Leblue, @scanline75, @Cybrwolf0, @JCMonkeyD3, @JeremyTStevens, @grindexp, @Chaos5061, and @wowjason62606. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* OOPS! A certain somebody forgot to post a Question of the Show on twitter. Complete #NevikFail. Fret not! Question of the Show will be back next episode! Be sure to follow our show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* We finally have the Patch 2.1 PTR up and running! Have you checked it out? We didn’t end up talking too much about the changes coming in 2.1, but if your ears are itching for some in-depth 2.1 discussion rumor has it that a community round table will be coming up Soon™.

* During our month hiatus E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) happened and Blizzard announced some exclusive content coming in the Playstion (3/4) versions of the Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition. Time to pick up a PS4! (*cough*Destiny*cough*)

* Prior to recording the show some huge news was dropped on us, Rob Pardo is leaving Blizzard. Where is he going? What affect will it have on the future development of Diablo III? We don’t have the answers, but we give our opinions on the matter and wish Rob Pardo all the best!

* It’s happened folks. Well … not just yet on the live servers, but /dance is coming in Patch 2.1! #GetHype

* Xanth published an article, Greater Rifts = Greater Deaths, over at Diablo.IncGamers examining how death is coming back to the hardcore scene thanks to the inclusion of greater rifts coming in 2.1.

* It was only a matter of time before cosplaying as community managers was a thing. Errr, well Nevalistis is a death maiden IRL, so it counts right? Anyhoo check out Ibelinn’s amazing death maiden cosplay!

* Over the period of 30 days, 150 players accumulated over 10k legendaries and the results were tracked and shared with a video infographic. Some interesting details came out of this large sampling of RNG.

* Diablo plushies anyone? WE WANT SO BAD!!! Alix, if there’s any chance of these becoming mass produced … PLEASE!

* As if there weren’t already a ton of AMAZEBALLS creative works coming out of the Diablo community Samo Kramberger shared his stunning Skeleton King statue. The amount of detail is sick!

* We teased that in this episode we would be sharing tips and tricks on getting in to Torment, unfortunately we had to push that off until next show. Sorry folks. There was just a lot to talk about with a month’s worth of tweets and emails. Next show, we promise*!  * not actually a binding contract ^^;

Song of the Show:

Sadly no Song of the Show for this episode. I know, I know. It’s been a month. You would think we would have had plenty of time to locate a suitable specimen to share with you. WELP. It didn’t happen folks. This segment will be back next episode with another lyrical masterpiece from a certain forum warrior.

Buuuut we don’t want to leave you completely empty-handed, so here you go. You can thank Jaetch for this.
