Changes – Episode 290

In this episode, Jen is joined by two guests who have been on Shattered Soulstone before: Medros and Shawn. The three of us talked about the changes that have been made to Shattered Soulstone.

This episode was recorded on January 14, 2021, while the changes were in progress. The plan was to post this episode as soon as some of the changes had been put in place.

Episode 85 – Sleep-Deprived Nevik Poppins

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our 85th episode, Nevik holds down the fort with both Jen and Lanntonio out-of-commission and with Breja being in Phoenix, Arizona. Nevik quickly gets down to business and talk about what he’s been up to: lone-wolfing it up as a werewolf in Diablo II and honoring fallen clan-mate’s season 3 HC Demon Hunter by dipping his toes into the world of HC Demon Huntering.

In this episode:

* We read and respond to emails from Ruuak and Rilandune as well as a pair of emails from Funktropus. Listener participation has been absolutely amazing and is primarily why we do this show, so keep them coming! We WILL get to all the emails we receive, even if occasionally we have to push a few to the next episode. Send in your stories of RNGesus triumph to!

* We received a bunch of tweets (as you might) from @Kherova, @scanline75, @Kagerai_Leblue, @EYedgar0111, @HomeTownHero008, @Rilandune, @Walkman8, @LtLunatic22, @BryzeeD3, @Shepherd_Sieja, and Papa Kangaroo himself, @Medros. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* With the recent Diablo II: Lord of Destruction ladder reset we were curious if anyone else was planning on taking a trip down Nostalgia Lane. Being as curious as we always are, we posed the question on Twitter to see if any of our listeners did and what class(es) they went with. Be sure to follow the show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* As Diablo III matures and new shinies are added to the game there has been a noticeable amount of power creep allowing many players to attain new heights in demon slaying. Is power creep beneficial? Or is it detrimental? Nevik talks about his thoughts and feelings on the subject, but what say you? Let us know your opinions on power creep.

* In case you haven’t yet made the jump to Reaper of Souls and are still running with Chocolate you may have noticed that as of Patch 2.2.1 Myriam decided to make an appearance in town; giving everyone** access to enchanting and transmog for their gear. ** Nevik inadvertently implied this change came to PS3/360 DIII/ROS owners, this is not the case as neither version has received any post-launch support.

* WE NEED YOUR HELP! Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to

* It is with heavy hearts that we found out that our good friend, Leviathan, is stepping down from his duties at Blizzpro and as a co-host of the fantastic Westmarch Workshop podcast. We will miss hearing his voice grace the show, but his decision to step down was for all of the right reasons and wish him all the best with his future endeavors.

* Blizzard’s official Play Your Way Thursday series continues with two new highlighted builds: Happyfeet’s “Stone Age” Barbarian and Demon Coyote’s “Speed-of-Lightning Ninja” Monk.

* Rebjorn79 put together a video demonstrating that there are variations of the Wizard Tal Rasha’s build that are viable at high level Greater Rifts. This variant employs the use of Wave of Force to keep baddies off of his wizard as he teleports around and rains meteors down.

* Looking to hit #1 on the leaderboards? Heisenberg shared the secret to success with his thread How to Get Rank #1 Solo World.

* While Nevik didn’t go deep on the discussion (this week at least) on group play vs solo play, the debate continues to rage on and Flux over at Diablo.IncGamers shared some of his thoughts on it.

* Lt. Lunatic from Blizzpro is back at it again with Transmog Tuesday #11 featuring a Demon Hunter transmog submitted by one of their readers; why not submit yours?

* Finally we leave you with a video of Jastrun’s Shadow of Diablo painting; the final product is really impressive, even if the video is … well … all over the place?

Other Entertainment/Games:

* JOHANNA IS HERE! Well, in Heroes of the Storm, that is. AND SHE IS AMAZING! If you’re looking to share your wrath in the Nexus be sure to check out her spotlight video highlighting her kit and playstyle.

* Speaking of Heroes, Smosh Games recently released their Honest Trailer for Heroes of the Storm. It’s quite humorous!

Song of the Show:

It’s a lovefest for Heroes of the Storm and for this episode what better way to celebrate the launch of Heroes than by featuring another one of Dan Bull’s lyrical masterpieces, Heroes of the Storm Rap. You can find more of Dan Bull’s work on YouTube and follow him on Twitter and Facebook.

Episode 60 – Reaping a Full House

In this momentous episode, not only are we whole once more, but we are joined by Medros and Rho for the eve of the reaping. After much celebration and frivolity we get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Breja is shaking things up in Torment, Lanntonio cleaned the slate, Nevik decided to invest into hardcore, and Jen dinged 60 on her Demon Hunter, Thirtyseven!!!

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, a mountain of emails we received from our wonderful listeners. This batch came to us from Master Do, Sean, and Mangall. Thank you for the emails and voice mail! Keep them coming, really!

* We posed the question on Twitter asking what class would you be playing first in Reaper of Souls. We got quite a few responses. Be sure to follow our show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* The deadline for our 100 Word Story Contest has come and gone. Hope you submitted your story. We will be announcing the winners on episode 61!

* With the launch of Reaper of Souls being imminent we thought it would be a good idea to go through what will be coming in the expansion that did not come with Patch 2.0.1. If you have been holding off on picking Diablo III back up until the expansion is here you may want to check out WoWhead’s Welcome Back to Diablo guide detailing all of the changes made in Patch 2.0.1 and Reaper of Souls.

* Blizzard has taken cross-promotion of their products to a new level with multiple tie-ins with the purchase of Reaper of Souls. By activating a Reaper of Souls key by 11:59pm PDT March 31st, 2014 you will gain the in-game cosmetic item Wings of Valor as well as unlock the Demon Hunter in Blizzard’s forth-coming Heroes of the Storm. As if that wasn’t enough, all purchases of the expansion will include some Hearthstone card packs!

* Our favorite hand-talker is up to his devious tricks again with some small and not so small allusions to the possibility of ladders coming. Do you like climbing ladders? Well Josh Mosqueira and the Diablo III development team sure think so.

* Nate Kenyon, author of Diablo III: The Order and Diablo III: Storm of Light, recently paid a visit to Breja’s son’s school to talk about what it takes to be an author and possibly inspire the next generation of Diablo novelists! Breja managed to record the presentation and you will find it near the end of this episode.

* If you were wondering if anyone could possibly be angry about the pre-order and Digital Deluxe/Collector’s Edition bonuses then this is an Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater for you. If you were not already aware our editor, Shawn, is in-between jobs and could really use some help. If you can spare anything there is a Crowdtilt fund to help make ends meet. We are massively grateful for any help you can send his way. Thank you!

* As mentioned during the show, Rho from All Things Azeroth and the Realm Maintenance podcast has graciously provided listeners of our show the ability to listen to the March 25th Diablo-sized Realm Maintenance podcast early! This episode of Realm Maintenance includes interviews with Archon the Wizard and all four of us Shattered Soulstone hosts!

* Remember how we mentioned that was going to be doing a Diablo podcast? Well Dred recently sat down and interviewed wizard extraordinaire Jaetch for the very first episode of Scythe and Shield!

* JCMonkey, friend of the show, has dove into the world of web-comics with his Diablo-themed comic series, The Subsequent Heroes. He already has the prologue and the first episode out. Be sure to send him feedback!

* We don’t envy the judges of the Blizzard/Deviant Art Reaper of Souls Fan Art contest. They have narrowed the entries down to the semi-finalists and every single piece is incredible. Don’t believe us? Head on over to see for yourself!

* In case you missed the live show on BiteSizeTV, Chaotic Awesome sat down with Josh Mosquiera to talk about Reaper of Souls.

* To say the Crusader is a major component of the Reaper of Souls would be a massive understatement. Over the past two weeks Blizzard has been drip-feeding us tasty tidbits of Crusader information with a look at the History of the Crusade, a look at the design process of building the Crusader, and “End of Her Journey” a short story by Robert Brooks.

* If that still wasn’t enough to satiate your need for Crusader infos, BlizzPro recently had a chance to sit down and interview Brian Kindregan (Lead Writer: Diablo III: Reaper of Souls), Andrea Toyias (Casting and Voice Over Director), Gideon Emery (Voice Actor: Male Crusader), and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (Voice Actor: Female Crusader).

* Kierpanda of is back with another Diablo-themed culinary masterpiece: Parsnips of Reflection.

Rho from All Things Azeroth and the Realm Maintenance podcast has dipped his toes into the world of song parodies with Hell Frozen Overa song that reflects the re-ignition of his love affair with Diablo III. We hope to hear more Diablo parodies from Rho in the future! *hint*hint*
