Episode 95 – LEMON-gendaries

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our 95th episode, Nevik does the heavy-lifting all by his lonesome as Breja, Jen, and Lanntonio were sadly unavailable to record. With Season 4 officially open Nevik gets straight to business and talk about what he’s been up to: getting shut down by Kadala.

In this episode:

  • We read and respond to a pair of emails from Pooleh and Funktropus. Listener participation has been absolutely amazing and is primarily why we do this show, so keep them coming! We WILL get to all the emails we receive, even if occasionally we have to push a few to the next episode. Send in your stories of RNGesus triumph to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com!
  • How did your first weekend of Season 4 go? We inquired on Twitter how kind RNGesus has been to you. Be sure to follow the show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.
  • Season 4 is HERE! Nevik shares his season 4 exploits including the highs and lows sprinkled with a few tips and/or tricks that might help your seasonal journey.
  • OFFICIAL FORUM THREAD MASTERPIECE THEATER IS BACK! With season 4 starting, complaints of the current end-game meta of XP farming trumping everything are popping up and Nevik finds such a thread for our enjoyment. Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

  • This past Tuesday, September 1st, members of the Diablo team answered questions from the Reddit community in another Reddit AMA Diablo Q&A. If you’re not interested in digging through the hefty thread, DiabloFans, BlizzPro, and DiabloII.net all have great round-ups to give you the TLDR.
  • TamplierPainter is back with another amazing piece of art, this time focusing on our favorite Lord of Terror (well … there is only one Lord of Terror), Diablo.

Other Entertainment/Games:

  • Wait. Other games and entertainment exist? It’s not all SEASON 4? We kid, we kid. Without Breja, Nevik skips over talking about the only other thing in the world: Fear the Walking Dead.

Episode 78 – Mr. Grammar Fuzzly Moneybags

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our 78th episode, we are unfortunately down a Jen once more. THANKS ALLERGENS. After an extremely brief introduction we get straight down to business by discussing BREAKING Diablo news and what we’ve been up to: Breja is closing in on seasonal paragon 100, Lanntonio got his witch doctor to the T6 promised land, and Nevik lost his wizard.

In this episode:

* We received a bundle of emails from Shayds and Kherova! We love to hear stories of triumph or tragedy from our listeners, so send in yours to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com!

* We received a metric ton of tweets from @Kherova, @TheQuadler, @BrentDoomfield, @scanline75, @Shepherd_Sieja, @TheInedibleF, @eG_acefisher1, @grindexp, @TheWMWorkshop, @RhoWoW, @shawno, @Gizmozord, @PansFolley, @Skipfridgy, @CruentusRelic, and @Kagerai_Leblue. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* We posed the question on Twitter that was quickly invalidated by some late breaking news from Blizzard. Yet it was interesting to see just how far off all of us were for predicting the end of Season 2, when Patch 2.2 would deploy, and finally when Season 3 would start. Be sure to follow the show on Twitter to participate in future Questions of the Show.

* Hours before recording this show, Blizzard decided to finalize and announce their plans for Patch 2.2 and when Season 2 would end and Season 3 would start. Needless to say we were shocked with how soon everything was going to happen. What are your thoughts? Too soon? Not soon enough? Just right? Let us know by sending an email to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

* BUT WAIT, SOMETHING ELSE AMAZING HAPPENED! Shattered Soulstone clan member Electryon dropped a little suggestion that BLEW Nevik’s mind. We have Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Treasure Goblin Spooker and soon to be added is The Corrupted Ashbringer and we can probably safely assume to see Frostmourne in the future, but what about the Warglaives of Azzinoth? Melee Demon Hunter anyone? LET’S MAKE THIS A REAL THING!

* Oh yah, and Blizzcon 2015 was announced. No big deal, right? Okay, we’re just being silly. If you’re looking to attend the convention this year, be sure to check out Blizzard’s official tips for securing tickets. Are you planning on being in Anaheim in early November?

* It is with heavy hearts that we regret to inform you that we did not produce an Official Forum Thread Masterpiece theater (again) for this episode. Not to pull a guilt trip, but YOU have the power to not let this happen again! Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

* The results are in! Here are your Blizzard Stream Awards 2014 (powered by Twitch.tv). Congratulations to DatModz for winning Best Overall Diablo III streamer, Alkaizerx for winning Most Educational Diablo III streamer, and Quin69 for winning Favorite New Diablo III streamer awards!

* Feeling a bit saucy? Need to spice up your Diablo III gameplay? Davlok has you covered with his Gong Mode: Sriracha Edition Monk featured on the most recent Play Your Way Thursday feature. We’re sure it will heat things up!

* We realize that not every one favors the best class in the game, but fear not – good friend of the show and fellow Diablo podcaster Leviathan of Blizzpro and The Westmarch Workshop fame experimented with the changes to the barbarian on the Patch 2.2 PTR and found an amazing build he has coined as the Rock n’ Roll barbarian. Check out his videos where he goes over the build and then demonstrates how the build works in a GR50 … ROCKIN!

* Patch 2.2 is going to shake up the Legendary Ring meta quite a bit and Diablo.IncGamers recently published a guest article going over in detail how the ring meta is going to change.

* If you have been a long time listener of the show the name Matthew Rossi should be quite familiar. In fact we mentioned him last week, and he’s back again with another Diablo-flavored Know Your Lore article over at Blizzard Watch going over the first part of the History of the Nephalem. If you’re even remotely interested in fleshing out some of the lore bits of the game, be sure to check this article (and all of his future articles) out!

* Up until Nevik realized a distinct lack of monk representation he was all in favor of a cyberpunk Diablo. Check out the Fan Art Collection compiled over at Diablo.IncGamers featuring some of the amazing pieces of mash-up fan art.

* Finally, are you a transmog fanatic? Have you come up with a slick look for your character(s)? Be sure to submit your transmog ideas to Blizzpro’s newest Diablo feature: Transmog Tuesday.

Other Entertainment/Games:

* We are all fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead and if you’re a fan too, you should head on over and give the Dead Fans Talking podcast a listen.

* Disappointed by the latest edition to SimCity? You’re not alone and the folks over at Paradox Interactive put together a fantastic game – Cities: Skylines – that should satisfy event he most discerning SimCity fan.

* Finally we leave you with a game that Nevik has already crowned his Game of the Year for 2015. Ori and the Blind Forest by Moon Studios is simply stunning, from the fluid gameplay, to the gorgeous artistic aesthetic and moving plot line you’re sure to fall in love, especially if you’re a fan of Metroidvania-style games.

Episode 76 – Gibbering Our Way to the Gemstone

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our 76th episode, we may be down two hosts but Nevik and Lanntonio hold the fort down. The pair then get down to business by discussing what they’ve been up to since the beginning of Season 2: Lanntonio has been spreading his special kind of plague with a Wormwood, and Nevik has been warming up to the wizard’s Firebird set playstyle!

In this episode:

* We received a single, solitary email from listener Adam! We love to hear stories of triumph or tragedy from our listeners, so send in yours to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com!

* We received a metric ton of tweets from @jay_likes_bacon, @eG_acefisher1, @NeinballGamer, @JCMonkeyD3, @shawno, @Medros, @Kagerai_Leblue, @scytheandshield, @josukeshair, @sastewart111, @Kherova, @EvilPlanetCrew, @_AussieGamer, @Rilandune, @scanline75, @Daddy_Puffin, and @celtherapy. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

We posed the question on Twitter asking what you listen to while playing Diablo III.  Be sure to follow our show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* Season Two has begun! Were you there waiting for the season to open up? That Friday night our in-game clan had an impressive turn-out and our 4th Musketeer, Lanntonio, even held an impromptu and unofficial Dead and Waiting. We would love to hear all about what you’ve been up to since season two started. So send us an email and tell us what amazing loot you’ve had drop!

* Hot on the heels of season two starting up Blizzard decided to tease us with a First Look of Patch 2.2, coming Soon™ to the PTR. Could this mean that season two will definitely be shorter than season one? Only time will tell, but let us know what has you most excited about the next content patch.

* We have long wondered how the Diablo team would monetize the game to supplement development and have theorized that we might see microtransactions come to the game. They are, but not for the EU/NA regions. We share our opinions on these developments and they might surprise you a bit!

* Our amazing audio editor Shawno found himself in the mood to create a saccharin-sweet Valentine dedicated to his wife and our very own Queen of Haiku Jen.

* DiabloFans.com has been highlighting numerous fan-art renditions of our beloved Diablo villians that were submitted for a Brainstorm (Facebook group) challenge. Be sure to check out Tommy Scott’s Mecha-Diablo 2.0, Mark Cheng’s Mecha Diablo, Eddie Mendoza’s Steam-punk Mecha Azmodan, Adam Ryoma Tazi’s Brute-Diablo.

* From the ashes of Wow Insider the Blizzard Watch has been born, complete with an expanded scope covering all of the Blizzard titles, including our beloved Diablo III. Matthew Rossi (you may remember that we’ve linked to some of his Diablo lore blog posts in the past) recently wrote a Know Your Lore article covering the Creation of the Diablo universe.

* Play Your Way Thursday added another fun variant for the Witch Doctor lovingly nicknamed Crafty Spirits as submitted by Dardor.

* If you’re more into wearing heavy armor and wield a huge shield, Leviathan’s Holy Hoover may be a fun Crusader build to try out in season two.

* With the last Fresh Meat N’ Greet, community manager Grimiku included an archive of all previous installments of the on-going forum series.

* Kripparian is back with another State of Diablo III covering his thoughts and insights on season two, monks, and the Hardcore playstyle.

Song of the Show:

Unfortunately Nevik has been devoting almost every waking moment to grinding away in Season Two and forgot to find something to treat your ears to. Fret not! Our next episode will almost assuredly have a musical selection at the end of the show. Until then, enjoy some Red, Red Wine.

Episode 64 – Where in the World are Zoltun Kulle’s Body Parts?

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, we our once again at full strength even if our 4th Musketeer was a bit tardy. Nevertheless we get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Breja is making progress with his stink/puke doctor, Jen managed to fit in a tiny bit of time on her barbarian, Lanntonio was burnt to a crisp, and Nevik has been exclusively monkeying around!

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, a mountain of emails we received from our wonderful listeners. This batch came to us from Foqbupog, Simon, Livintrust, Sad Romeo and our European community ambassador, Master Do! Thank you for the amazing amount of emails! Keep them coming, really!

* We received a mountain of tweets from @Torrack1714, @Torhammer6, @HomeTownHero008, @BurghCrow78, @shawno, @Medros, @Joshcbc, @Kherova, @Moogyver, @Paidtokill5440, @wowjason62606, @Cybrwolf0, @Justin__HB, @Kagerai_Leblue, and @diabloplayer68. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* We posed the question on Twitter asking who or what you thought the final encounter would be of a potential second expansion. We got quite a few responses despite the short notice on the question going live. Be sure to follow our show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* As promised in our last episode, we decided to finally talk about the ending of Reaper of Souls. We didn’t get quite as much input from our listeners as we would have liked, but that didn’t stop us from wildly speculating on the expansion.

* Seasons are still a hotly debated topic in the community and we kept the dialogue going with one of our listeners. This time focusing more on our own individual reasons for being interested in participating in a season. What about you? Are you looking forward to seasons? Or are you feeling penalized for wanting to focus on your main character? Let us know in an email!

* We are back at it with another Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theatre, and this one is quite a doozy. This time we bring you an OFTMPT to end all OFTMPTs. The end all, be all of all forum threads. No, seriously.

As always we are looking for your participation with this fun segment, send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

This episode’s Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater segment bed music included Rondeau from Sinfonie de Fanfares by Jean-Joseph Mouret and Lost by Pogo.

* Hot on the heels of our spoilerific Reaper of Souls ending discussion we have a few more links for you to consume to add a bit more flavor to a somewhat bland and/or lacking ending. Matthew Rossi from Wow Insider posted his thoughts on the Reaper of Souls ending and rather than butcher his words we would rather have you read them yourselves. You can also check out his thoughts on the whole of Diablo 3 chocolate as there are still some insights in there on where the story may go.

* In case those links did not satiate your need for Diablo lore, Blizzard recently updated their game guide with an official Story of Diablo that serves as a great primer in case you’re new to the game and/or history of the universe.

* Another short story, Middlewick by Erik Sabol, has been added to the official game guide. So many words, so little time. We hope to have a fully fledged discussion on this short in the near future.

* One of our dear community members, Cybrwolf, recently lost his hardcore monk and eulogized her on /r/Diablo. May her deeds always be remembered!

* Eat Game Live‘s Reaper of Recipes contest has a winner! If you’re a fan of hake and quinoa you might want to try it out. BUT THOSE TEETH?!? UGH.

* If RNGesus hasn’t been nice to you, you’re not alone but Grimiku chimed in on one of the many, many, MANY conspiracy threads on loot tables and laid the tin foil hat theories to rest, we hope. RNG is RNG and Blizzard has nothing to gain by stealthily adjusting drop rates. Is it enough to sate the crazed forum goers? … well … time will tell?

I know that it can feel like drop rates are being changed when you have experienced a streak of good or bad luck, but it simply isn’t the case. We gain nothing positive by influencing drop rates without communicating it, and would only lose trust as a result. Simply put, it’s not what we do.
Streaks of bad luck are going to happen, and we all go through them. The danger (and why the thread is locked) lies in the spread of misinformation, which in turn can inspire players to alter their in-game habits in ways that actually have no influence over what items they find.

* We teased that next episode we will sharing tips and tricks on getting in to Torment, but if you can’t wait that long – or are looking to dig your teeth into the nitty and gritty, Vaneras on the European forums put together an exhaustive list of guides on the minutiae of the game.

Song of the Show:

This episode’s Song of the Show brings things back into the realm of Diablo-themed music. The Fallen King by Renard Rose is a hauntingly beautiful piano piece in tribute to the Skeleton King himself. He’s popular eh? Anyhoo, you can check out more from Renard Rose over at YouTube as well as on Facebook.

Episode 42 – Back in My Day

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, we’re down a Breja after a medical scare over the weekend, but after reassuring everyone that everyone is okay we then get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Nevik is slowly making progress with his special HC wizard, Lanntonio now has a hardcore puke doctor, and Jen fired some bolts into the cold dead (again) corpse of the Skeleton King in Nightmare.

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, another mountain of emails we received from our wonderful listeners. This batch comes to us from Str8UpJack, Torrack, Daws and Rilandune. Thank you for the email! Keep them coming, really!

* We received tweets from @Rilandune, @9PadGaming, @Torrack1714, @shawno, @scanline75, and our very own @QueenofHaiku. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* With E3 having come and gone we spend some time discussing the console version of Diablo III set to unleash hell on the couch later this year on September 3rd. Check out the Multiplayer trailer as well as an Gametrailers.com All Access interview with Game Director, Josh Mosquiera and Production Director, John Hight

* As prompted by our dear listener, Str8UpJack, we reminisce on features of old that we miss as well as some that we don’t miss from Diablo I and Diablo II. What features do you miss, or not miss?

* “Ladder Resets” is tossed around every now and then as a potential fix to the spiraling economy in Diablo III so we, after a very verbose prompting by our good friend Rilandune, try to explain what a ladder reset is and how it could address some of the issues.

* If you’re looking forward to the console version of Diablo III and planning on picking it up for the Playstation 3 you might want to consider pre-ordering it to gain access to some bonus items? What bonus items? Check out Blizzard’s blog post to find out what you’ll get for pre-ordering as well as some Playstation exclusive items you can expect to find.

Game Director Josh Mosquiera at E3

* It has been quite some time since we’ve mentioned Matthew Rossi’s supremely impressive dissection of the Diablo III storyline. We highly recommend reading his thoughts presented in his blog post, Diablo 3, gnostic overtones, and the plot threads.

* In our console discussion we digressed just long enough to mention the Xbox One(Eighty) and Nevik mentioned a scathing article posted on a public-facing military news site titled “A Sin Against All Service Members“. The article is now moot, but you can still check out the web-cache of it to see the ramifications of an “always online” device for our military service members stationed abroad.

* “Oh Ffffffuuuuuuuddddgggggeeeee” always a classic quote from the greatest Christmas movie ever made.

* During our discussion of death penalties, Jen mentioned an old MMO she used to play called Meridian 59. If you’re curious, it is free to play, but is extremely dated – check it out if you wish.

Tatasinke is back with another edition of his Paper.li newspaper, the New Tristram News. Check it out and subscribe!

Song of the Show:

For this episode we go back to Diablo’s roots with a remix of the track you would hear in Tristram from Diablo I. Tristram Village Remix is an amazing piece by Soundcloud user Drugis. Unfortunately his account seems to have been abandoned, but maybe someday we’ll hear something new from him.
