Episode 81 – Summoning Leviathan

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our 81st episode, we brought in a Leviathan as a guest host to substitute for our still allergy-suffering co-joey Jen. After a very brief force-filled introduction we get down to business and talk about what we’ve been up to: Leviathan has been doing work with a Demon Hunter, Breja is still chasing his unicorn… a RoRG, and Nevik has been moonlighting as a Crusader.

On April 25th at 11:56 NST a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred 34 km (21 mi) east-southeast of Lamjung, Nepal. The devastation has been widespread and the death toll keeps climbing. Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal affected by the initial quake and continuing subsequent after-shocks. Numerous non-profit organizations have mobilized and arrived in Nepal, but they need your help. If you can help go to bit.ly/paypalnepalrelief which links directly to Paypal’s Nepal Earthquake Relief and Recovery Donation site. 100% of all donations will be directly sent to each respective organization with Paypal waiving all corresponding fees so that every cent donated is delivered to each non-profit organizations helping in the relief effort. Again, if you can, please help.

In this episode:

* We were joined by Leviathan of BlizzPro’s Westmarch Workshop to help with the heavy-lifting of hosting the show. Following our typical catching up at the top of the show, Nevik virtually sits down with Leviathan to get to know more about the robot behind the robot?

* As mentioned in episode 80 we had to push a few of the emails (and an audio) we received from our wonderful listeners due to time constraints (and Nevik technical failings). Then we received even more, and as you might have guessed, we had to push those emails to episode 82. Listener participation has been absolutely amazing and is primarily why we do this show, so keep them coming! We WILL get to all the emails we receive, even if occasionally we have to push a few to the next episode. Send in your stories of RNGesus triumph to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com!

* We received a bunch of tweets (as you might) from @playrider2, @Kherova, @Skullbash1241, @EYedgar0111, @CruentusRelic, @pergosmaster, @josukeshair, @N3rdwards, @KeeperofAlts, @Kagerai_Leblue, @eG_acefisher1, @CkRtech, @scanline75, and our very own @Lanntonio and @QueenofHaiku. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* We posed the question on Twitter asking how your seasonal progression has been going. Achieved a new personal best? We wanted to know. Be sure to follow the show on Twitter to participate in future Questions of the Show.

* One issue that seems to be growing in volume is the disparity of solo play versus playing with a group. We discuss, at length, our own opinions and thoughts on this issue and its affect on season play and the community in general. And then if that wasn’t enough, we received a 10 minute audio from our good friend @Kagerai_Leblue sharing his musings on how the issue affects him.

* Seemingly out-of-the-blue the 7th Play Your Way Thursday happened and a few nuggets of what we can expect coming in the future were dropped in our laps. In case you missed the live broadcast of the stream, the Video On Demand has been made available.

* Are you planning on attending Blizzcon 2015? Even if you aren’t, you can still participate and enter 3 of the 4 contests that we are familiar with. Be sure to read up on all of the details and deadlines should you feel saucy enough to enter.

* After two straight shows our beloved segment, Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater, appearing we were not able to record one in time to be included in this episode. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

* Wesley, what about the ROUSes?

https://youtu.be/BOv5ZjAOpC8

* That’s it. We can all stop playing Diablo III proper and just spend all of our time gambling for virtual ancient weapons with the amazing Kadala Gambling Simulator.

* You may have noticed a fairly large undercurrent of Final Fantasy love in this episode, this is largely thanks to a very special Crusader transmog featured over at BlizzPro. A CRUSADER COSPLAYING AS A DRAGOON? YESSSH.

* Prompted by listener, @josukeshair, we dug up all that we could about the old podcast, the Worldstone Keep. While the show has long gone cold, you can still take a trip down memory-lane and watch/listen to their old shows on YouTube. Mayhaps one day this show will resurface? Keep an eye out on their Facebook group.

Other Entertainment/Games:

* Boom! Dragons! AND DRAGOONS! Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward is right around the corner.

* Avengers: Age of Ultron was absolutely amazing. Go see it. JUST DO IT.

* After a false-start Nevik finally started understanding, and enjoying, Shadow of Mordor. While this game flies in the faces of Tolkien purists, it’s an amazing game and you can probably pick it up on the cheap!

Episode 76 – Gibbering Our Way to the Gemstone

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In our 76th episode, we may be down two hosts but Nevik and Lanntonio hold the fort down. The pair then get down to business by discussing what they’ve been up to since the beginning of Season 2: Lanntonio has been spreading his special kind of plague with a Wormwood, and Nevik has been warming up to the wizard’s Firebird set playstyle!

In this episode:

* We received a single, solitary email from listener Adam! We love to hear stories of triumph or tragedy from our listeners, so send in yours to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com!

* We received a metric ton of tweets from @jay_likes_bacon, @eG_acefisher1, @NeinballGamer, @JCMonkeyD3, @shawno, @Medros, @Kagerai_Leblue, @scytheandshield, @josukeshair, @sastewart111, @Kherova, @EvilPlanetCrew, @_AussieGamer, @Rilandune, @scanline75, @Daddy_Puffin, and @celtherapy. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

We posed the question on Twitter asking what you listen to while playing Diablo III.  Be sure to follow our show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* Season Two has begun! Were you there waiting for the season to open up? That Friday night our in-game clan had an impressive turn-out and our 4th Musketeer, Lanntonio, even held an impromptu and unofficial Dead and Waiting. We would love to hear all about what you’ve been up to since season two started. So send us an email and tell us what amazing loot you’ve had drop!

* Hot on the heels of season two starting up Blizzard decided to tease us with a First Look of Patch 2.2, coming Soon™ to the PTR. Could this mean that season two will definitely be shorter than season one? Only time will tell, but let us know what has you most excited about the next content patch.

* We have long wondered how the Diablo team would monetize the game to supplement development and have theorized that we might see microtransactions come to the game. They are, but not for the EU/NA regions. We share our opinions on these developments and they might surprise you a bit!

* Our amazing audio editor Shawno found himself in the mood to create a saccharin-sweet Valentine dedicated to his wife and our very own Queen of Haiku Jen.

* DiabloFans.com has been highlighting numerous fan-art renditions of our beloved Diablo villians that were submitted for a Brainstorm (Facebook group) challenge. Be sure to check out Tommy Scott’s Mecha-Diablo 2.0, Mark Cheng’s Mecha Diablo, Eddie Mendoza’s Steam-punk Mecha Azmodan, Adam Ryoma Tazi’s Brute-Diablo.

* It is with heavy hearts that we regret to inform you that we did not produce an Official Forum Thread Masterpiece theater (again) for this episode. Not to pull a guilt trip, but YOU have the power to not let this happen again! Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

* From the ashes of Wow Insider the Blizzard Watch has been born, complete with an expanded scope covering all of the Blizzard titles, including our beloved Diablo III. Matthew Rossi (you may remember that we’ve linked to some of his Diablo lore blog posts in the past) recently wrote a Know Your Lore article covering the Creation of the Diablo universe.

* Play Your Way Thursday added another fun variant for the Witch Doctor lovingly nicknamed Crafty Spirits as submitted by Dardor.

* If you’re more into wearing heavy armor and wield a huge shield, Leviathan’s Holy Hoover may be a fun Crusader build to try out in season two.

* With the last Fresh Meat N’ Greet, community manager Grimiku included an archive of all previous installments of the on-going forum series.

* Kripparian is back with another State of Diablo III covering his thoughts and insights on season two, monks, and the Hardcore playstyle.

* Kotaku recently reported on the first Hardcore player to ding Paragon 1000, an impressive feat! Ukranian player Nokieka eclipsed the 1000 mark shortly after the conclusion of season one.

Song of the Show:

Unfortunately Nevik has been devoting almost every waking moment to grinding away in Season Two and forgot to find something to treat your ears to. Fret not! Our next episode will almost assuredly have a musical selection at the end of the show. Until then, enjoy some Red, Red Wine.
