Episode 71 – Hardcure Peppered Bacon

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, our intrepid host returns! After much rejoicing we get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Nevik rebuilt his lost monk stronger than ever, Breja has been slaying the work guardian, Lanntonio jumped back into Diablo II with the new ladder, and Jen ventures further and deeper in to seasonal play.

In this episode:

* We unfortunately did not receive a single email! We love to hear stories of triumph or tragedy from our listeners, so keep them coming, really!

* We received a handful of tweets from @Kherova, @grindexp, @Makoez, and our editing master @shawno. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

We posed the question on Twitter asking for your predictions on when Season 1 will end and when the PTR for Patch 2.1.2 would go live.  Be sure to follow our show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* With the PTR for Patch 2.1.2 in full swing you would think that there wouldn’t be a lull in the Diablos for the hosts, but between the Garrisons of Draenor and the obscene community buff we found ourselves biding our time. That isn’t to say that we have not partaken in the PTR and did not have plenty of Diablo to discuss; with Season 2 Soon™ you could say that we are saving ourselves to go full bore when season 2 starts.

* It is with heavy hearts that we regret to inform you that we did not produce an Official Forum Thread Masterpiece theater (again) for this episode. Not to pull a guilt trip, but YOU have the power to not let this happen again! Your participation can ensure that this fun segment makes an appearance every show. Send your Official Forum Thread Masterpiece Theater audio segments (or humorous forum threads) to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com.

* As mentioned, GrindEXP has closed their proverbial doors. Fret not! Dr. J Dredscythe hasn’t abandoned all of us and has decided to take his Diablo podcast, Scythe and Shield, independent and given the show a new shiny site. Dred has also picked up a familiar voice as a co-host and recruited JCMonkey to discuss all things Diablo.

* If you’re curious about some of the finer details of Season 2 Meathead Mikhail has a pair of YouTube videos detailing the ins and outs of the new legendary Gem of Ease as well as how the transition of seasonal to non-season characters happens.

* If you’re a min-maxer Jaetch, friend of the show, has put together a video guide on how to maximize your weapon DPS. If you’re trying to chase the leaderboards you might find his insight useful.

* Diablo.IncGamers has put together a fantastic compilation of the best of Diablo cosplay at Blizzcon 2014. While some of the pictures are “on location” shots that happened far from the convention, all cosplayers were in attendance of the con.

* As mentioned in the show, greater rifts are receiving some significant tuning on how bonus damage scales above greater rift level 25. Just how significant? Check out this news post on Diablofans for a chart detailing the changes.

* Winter is actually happening in Northern California and for some reason Nevik was reminded of this video of someone attempting to jump into a pool. Spoiler: It’s not a good idea.

Song of the Show:

We might have gotten carried away just a little with all of the Garrisons of Draenor discussion, so much so that we actually featured the WoW parody song, All About My Base by Sharm.

OKAY, we didn’t completely dive off the deep end and properly pulled in a Diablo-themed parody for the TRUE Song of the Show. As a former Belieber, Nevik felt it only appropriate to feature Boyfriend (feat: Danna Richards) by Terence Jay for this episode. You can find more Diablo parodies from Terence Jay at his YouTube channel and more from Danna Richards on her YouTube channel.

Episode 65 – Torrack and *ahem* Whatnot

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, we celebrate getting back into the “recording studio” and ‘Murica’s burfday! After some cleaning up some podcasting cobwebs we get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Breja is DETERMINED to get a hardcore level 70, Lanntonio is still without good internet, Nevik is still fruitlessly grinding for a Ring of Royal Grandeur, and Jen got her barbarian to 70!

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, a mountain of emails we received from our wonderful listeners. This batch came to us from Torrack, Rockdale, Hawgeye, and Graciel! Thank you for the amazing amount of emails! Keep them coming, really!

* We received a mountain of tweets from @Torrack1714 *cough*, @Foqbupog, @Paidtokill5440, @diabloplayer68, @HomeTownHero008, @Rilandune, @Hawgeye_CTR, @ig_nateward, @Kagerai_Leblue, @scanline75, @Cybrwolf0, @JCMonkeyD3, @JeremyTStevens, @grindexp, @Chaos5061, and @wowjason62606. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* OOPS! A certain somebody forgot to post a Question of the Show on twitter. Complete #NevikFail. Fret not! Question of the Show will be back next episode! Be sure to follow our show account, @ShatteredStone, on Twitter for future Questions of the Show.

* We finally have the Patch 2.1 PTR up and running! Have you checked it out? We didn’t end up talking too much about the changes coming in 2.1, but if your ears are itching for some in-depth 2.1 discussion rumor has it that a community round table will be coming up Soon™.

* During our month hiatus E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) happened and Blizzard announced some exclusive content coming in the Playstion (3/4) versions of the Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition. Time to pick up a PS4! (*cough*Destiny*cough*)

* Prior to recording the show some huge news was dropped on us, Rob Pardo is leaving Blizzard. Where is he going? What affect will it have on the future development of Diablo III? We don’t have the answers, but we give our opinions on the matter and wish Rob Pardo all the best!

* It’s happened folks. Well … not just yet on the live servers, but /dance is coming in Patch 2.1! #GetHype

* Xanth published an article, Greater Rifts = Greater Deaths, over at Diablo.IncGamers examining how death is coming back to the hardcore scene thanks to the inclusion of greater rifts coming in 2.1.

* It was only a matter of time before cosplaying as community managers was a thing. Errr, well Nevalistis is a death maiden IRL, so it counts right? Anyhoo check out Ibelinn’s amazing death maiden cosplay!

* Over the period of 30 days, 150 players accumulated over 10k legendaries and the results were tracked and shared with a video infographic. Some interesting details came out of this large sampling of RNG.

* Diablo plushies anyone? WE WANT SO BAD!!! Alix, if there’s any chance of these becoming mass produced … PLEASE!

* As if there weren’t already a ton of AMAZEBALLS creative works coming out of the Diablo community Samo Kramberger shared his stunning Skeleton King statue. The amount of detail is sick!

* We teased that in this episode we would be sharing tips and tricks on getting in to Torment, unfortunately we had to push that off until next show. Sorry folks. There was just a lot to talk about with a month’s worth of tweets and emails. Next show, we promise*!  * not actually a binding contract ^^;

Song of the Show:

Sadly no Song of the Show for this episode. I know, I know. It’s been a month. You would think we would have had plenty of time to locate a suitable specimen to share with you. WELP. It didn’t happen folks. This segment will be back next episode with another lyrical masterpiece from a certain forum warrior.

Buuuut we don’t want to leave you completely empty-handed, so here you go. You can thank Jaetch for this.

Episode 45 – #Daws

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, our 4th Musketeer could not join us for more than a fleeting moment on account of having a massive household move the following day. We then get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Breja dreams of the possibilities of an Auriel statuette, Jen caught up with Zoltun Kulle-story-bro in Hell, and Nevik powered through his wizard up to paragon 80.

In this episode:

* We read, and respond to, another mountain of emails we received from our wonderful listeners. This batch comes to us from Tensor, Chad and Daws. Thank you for the email! Keep them coming, really!

* We received tweets from @scanline75, @HomeTownHero008, @Torrack1714, @Jaetch, @TwizzTE, and our very own @QueenofHaiku. Thank you for your tweets. Don’t forget that you, too, can send in your thoughts via social media outlets such as FacebookGoogle+, and Twitter.

* We ponder how much how much our 4th Musketeer, Lanntonio, should offer to his brother-in-law, Daws, for helping him with the move. How much do you think he should gift? Be sure to either leave a comment on this show thread, or share your opinion on Twitter. Be sure to direct your tweet @Lanntonio and include the hashtag #daws.

[Editor’s Note: It appears #daws has an entirely different meaning out there in the twitterverse, but hopefully we can confoozle some folks out there with our inclusion of the hashtag ^^]

* Our very good friend, Jaetch (@Jaetch) picked up some swag from our CafePress store. Very stylin’!

* Mr. Monstrosity is back with another impressive suggestion thread over on the DiabloFans forums titled Loot 2.0, Discovering Its True Potential. There are some really neat ideas in his thread and it has garnered attention over at /r/Diablo and by the Blizzard Diablo III community team with an official blog post highlighting it. We highly recommend checking it out and sharing your opinions with us by shooting us an email: show@shatteredsoulstone.com.

* We discuss Senior Technical Designer Wyatt Cheng popping his head out over at /r/Diablo to discuss design theory in regards to life regeneration and EHP (effective health pool) and give our opinions on the discussion. For a summation of the exchange head on over to the DiabloFans article highlighting it.

* Just by listening to the show you would never guess that Nevik has a bias towards wizards. Nope. Never. So we figured whenever we get some wizard-love from our fellow listeners we have to share it with all of you. Our good friend Tensor recently hit paragon level 70 with his wizard and here’s his screenshot to prove it!

* If you haven’t picked up the trade paperback of the Diablo: Sword of Justice comic series then you’re doing yourself a HARSH INJUSTICE. Quite simply this comic series is AH-MAZE-NG and you owe it to yourself to own this incredible piece of work before it becomes hard to find.

* Sometimes you will hear us mention EHP and other technical terms on the show and might be wondering how one would go about determining that. D3UP.com is a fantastic utility site out there that makes it easy to discover your EHP as well as provide other extremely useful information!

* DiaBro3.com is another useful utility site comes to us recommended by Jaetch, wizard extraordinaire. It is a gear evaluator that identifies your overall gear value and can help plan out effective upgrades as well as provide you a fairly accurate assessment of which monster power level your character can handle effectively.

* In breaking news a day prior to recording the show we learned that Activision-Blizzard bought back a significant portion of shares held by Vivendi resulting in freeing themselves from being controlled by Vivendi. Head on over to Flux’s article over at Diablo.IncGamers for more information on the deal.

* Who doesn’t love cosplay? Especially if it is of the Diablo persuasion? Recently down in Los Angeles Anime Expo 2013 happened and there were some amazing Diablo-themed cosplay to be found.

* If you play one of those overpowered barbarians and are looking to maximize your legendary farming techniques check out Moldran’s short video highlighting 5 tips for you.

* Somehow we missed it, but Diablo Somepage was able to sit down with Josh Mosquiera, Travis Day and Kevin Martens back in June. OOOPS! While not as fresh as the most recent batch of developer interviews, there’s still some good information to consume, check out the interview!

* Blizzard’s community team has been taking a more active role in promoting individuals from the community and took the time to sit down with Twitch.tv streamer Archon the Wizard. If you would like to know a bit more about the prolific D3, head on over to Blizzard’s interview with Archon.

* Xanth over at Diablo.Incgamers recently posted an article on proper public game etiquette titled Playing Well with Others. We know that none of our listeners would be as bold to leech XP in higher MP level games, but nonetheless it is a good read and something to be aware of when joining a public game.

Tatasinke is back with another edition of his Paper.li newspaper, the New Tristram News. Check it out and subscribe!

Song of the Show:

Most of the Diablo-themed musical remixes we’ve found out there have mainly been focused on Diablo’s most iconic piece of music, Tristram. This episode we bring you a remix based on Leah’s theme titled Leah (Diablo 3 Dom1 Remix) created by the Nerdy Dance Experiment, a blog that takes video game mash-ups and adds interpretive dance. You can find more video game mash-ups from the Nerdy Dance Experiment at their blog, or at SoundCloud.

Episode 37 – It’s Not the Size of Your Revelation

Show notes originally posted by Nevik

In this episode, we are without our dear fourth musketeer and missed him dearly. Fortunately the rest of the crew was able to overcome numerous technical difficulties and we get down to business by discussing what we’ve been up to in-game: Jen finally played their male wizard again, Breja may or may not have lost his Apple, and Nevik recorded from inside a bottle of white, white wine!

In this episode:

To check out all of the winners head over to the Blizzard Diablo 3 blog which includes links to the direct /r/Diablo threads. (Note: This contest ran quite awhile ago and have been meaning to discuss the winners for quite some time now and we finally found the time to cover it)

* We finally know when Blizzcon 2013 tickets go on sale! Ready your F5 key on Wednesday, April 24th at 7pm pacific and Saturday, April 27th at 10am pacific.

* We discuss our thoughts on a few of the multiplayer improvements coming in patch 1.0.8 shared in the developer blog written by none other than the wizard-hater himself, Wyatt Cheng.

We’re still looking for intro submissions for our Intro Contest. Prizes haven’t been nailed down, but at the very least you could win a $20 (US) Battle.net Balance Card! Send your intros to Show@ShatteredSoulstone.com. Keep them shorter than 45 seconds (30 preferably) and make sure to utilize royalty-free music or music from Diablo 3. Deadline for this contest has also not been nailed down, but we’re hoping to have a new intro in time for the anniversary of Diablo 3 going live.
